CROSSING STRAIT

WELLINGTON, February 20
Charles Barlow set out to-night from Makara at 10 minutes past seven on his attempt to cross Cook Strait m a collapsible canvas canoe. There was a light north-westerly wind blowing, and the sea was calm. He expects the journey to take about sixteen hours, and to land, all being well, m the vicinity of the Three brothers.
