CHRISTCH-RCH, Fch. 21. In the Magistrate’s Court, John •Black Batchelor faced the following charges:—(l) That on July 9th. 1928. ne stole £9BG, the property of Lcounid Percival A r oice. (2) That on August Ist. 1928. he received £J0(). with directions that such money should he applied to a certain direction, and did fraudulently apply the said sum to another purpose. The Magistrate said: “I have some doubts as to whether Batchelor’s mentality is strong enough to prevent him doing anything foolish. T don’t mean suicide, but evasion of trial if on bail. Batchelor will be remanded till tomorrow at 12.30. p.m. He will he available for the Official Assignee this afternoon. To-morrow we will see how this has worked.”
