Two races were sailed to-day, and were won by the Avalon and the Clyde. The morning race was sailed in a fresh full-sail southerly and a moderate sea. All the boats carried four-men crows. The course was windward and leeward. In a close haul for the weather buoy, the Eileen (Otago) took the lead. The Murihiku (Southland) made a good showing for the first half of the race. The order in rounding the weather buoy the first time was: Eileen, Avalon, Clyde, Colleen, Murihiku, the Auckland boat leading by half a minute. On the run, the Avalon picked up 18sec on the' second, and on the final heat the Avalon outsailed the Eileen, and rounded -lOsccs. ahead.

'trie finish was: Avalon 1, Eileen 2, Clyde 3, Murihiku 4, Colleen 5.

The fourth race was sailed in the afternoon in a strong southerly gale, and a heavy sea over a triangular course. The Eileen (Otago) led until she lost her spinnaker forward on the second round. Then the Clyde (Wellington) went to the front. On the last round the Eileen regained the lead on the run, but was again overtaken by the Clyde, the Wellington boat winning amidst great excitement, eight seconds ahead of the Eileen. The Avalon (Auckland) was reefed down and was unable to catch the leaders at any stage. She finished third. The Colleen (Canterbury) was fourth.
