HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE

MONDAY, FEBRUARY ISth. The Committee met at 7 p.m. Present: Messrs A. C. Armstrong (Chairman), W. H. Shannon, W. E. Richards, R'. J. Redder, IT. R. Sweney and J. Conning (lion. sec.). Apology was made for the absence of Mrs Wilson. , The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved.

INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. The Chairman reported that the tender of Mr J. Coulson had been accepted for the conveyance of school children from and to Blue Spur at 20s per day. Arrangements for the cutting of the lawns were left to the Secretary to ar range.

From Education Board, approving of subsidy on voluntary contributions £Bl. —Received.

From Kanieri School, enclosing dona tion of £1 5s towards picnic.—Received

From various Picnic Committees ask ing for arrangements to he made.—Re ceived and already attended to.

Accounts as scheduled were passed for payment. From Rector (Mr E. Partridge) reporting the attendance was satisfactory, the secondary classes roll number being 104 and primary 205; notifying alteration to the teaching staff, placing on record the satisfactory successes ot scholars at the recent examinations; t li»» Education staff was engaged in erecting new lavatories. r l he lawns' had been mowed and were now in good older; recommending that one end of the. shelter shed he closed in to give further teaching space. —neceived ; and some small requirements were authorised to be procured. It was resolved to bring the requirements before the Board through Mr Wild. The Grounds Committee was authorised to take necessary action in regard to improving the football ground. The Chairman said in view of the small attendance at the picnic to Lake Mahinapua, it. had been suggested that another excursion be Held to Otira or Arthur’s Pass. After discussion Mr Redder amoved that an excursion lie held to Arthur’s Pass. Seconded by the Chairman and carried. March 6th was suggested as the probable date, and to leave about 8 a.m.

Visitors for the month, Mrs Wilson and Mr Armstrong. The Committee rose at 8 p.m.
