THEFT AND INCENDIARISM. (Australian Press Association). (Received this day at 9. a.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 18. Thieves during the week-end enteied the home, at North Melbourne, of P. Sullivan, a cartage contractor for a number of timber firms, and stole money and jewellery valued at over £SOO. They then set fire to the house, which was practically destroyed. Simultaneously tires occurred in timber stacks at the railway yards in the same neighbourhood. A nightwatcliman fired three shots at a loiterer who escaped.
STEAMER REFLOATED. MELBOURNE, Feb. 18. The stranded steamer Casino was refloated at Warrnambool and temporarily repaired. She is returning to Melbourne on Tuesday. REARRESTD. SYDNEY, Feb. 18. The police to-day rearrested Walter Jones, who with Duncan, escaped from custody. STRIKERS’ MOVE. (Received this day at 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 18. The Central Strike Committee of the timber workers, believing many strikers have become so restless and dissatisfied with the present condition that a stampede back to work is likely, have decided upon an extension of the dispute bv declaring all timber on the wharves black. MOTOR FATALITY. SYDNEY, Feb. 18. Detective Sergeant Truskett, of New South Wales Force, was killed to-day. While motoring with his wife the car .went over a precipice in Roseville locality. The wife was badly injured.
