THIRD RACE OFF. (Hv Telegraph—Press Asfiociat.'on), AKAIIOA, February Ifi. The third race in the Sanders Cup contest started here tin's morning In almost.a dead calm, hut it was declared no race, owing to no boat completing the course in the time limit of three hours. The Clyde, Colleen and Kilecn led at different stages. A feature of the race was the wonderful display of the Auckland boat Avalon, which at the quarter distance was 23 minutes behind the leaders. Hy superb ability to work light airs, she worked up, and when the recall gun went she was leading by six minutes. The •Jellicoo class championship, in connection with the Akaroa regatta was sailed in the afternoon, in a strong southerly with a choppy sea. Five of the Sanders Cup contestants took part, also the Hetty, the winner of the cup for the past three years. The Otago boat Eileen took the lead at the start, and was never headed. She sailed a splendid race, and heat the Hetty hy 4 minutes “24 seconds. The actual sailing times were:—Eileen 1 hour 29 min. (i see.; Hetty 1 hour 33 min. 25 see.: Clyde 1 hour 43 min. 35 sec.; Avalon 1 hour 33 min. 50 sec.; Colleen 1 hour 36 min. 18 sec. Murihiku 1 hour 37 min. 25 sec. Outboard races, an innovation for Akaroa, provided plenty of thrills, two oif the contestants capsizing.
