SEVERAL FATALITIES. v ßy Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, Fell. 17. Several accidents have occurred at Auckland during thc,.\weu-e:iil. Aland Rappard, aged 15, of 28, All- - Avenue, Takapuna, received severe head injuries through being knocked down by a motor car while she was crossing the road at Takapuna yesterday. She was admitted to the hospital, and her condition is serious. Head injuries, also received through being knocked down by a car, resulted in the death at the Hospital of George Sumner, aged two years, whose parents reside at Jellicoe Avenue, Alt. lloskill.
As the result of a collision between j two motor cars at Newmarket early this morning, two men, Athol Dawkins, aged 24. of 325 Mauakau Road, Epsom; and Stanley Body, of Te Arona. were admitted to the hospital. Dawkins is suffering from severe head injures and his condition is serious. Body is not badly injured. They were motoring to Epsom from the city when their car collided with another, diiven by Alaurice Gutteridge, travelling from Epsom. Both cars were badly damaged. WOMAN KILLED. DUNEDIN, Feb. 16. A motor accident occurred yesterday morning on the Alain South Road near Balelutha. Airs Thomas Holland, of Gore, received injuries which proved fatal. A Hudson Six car, driven by Mr AI. A 1 Robertson, of , Gore, was
carrying three passengers. The car skidded on some louse metal and overturned. The occupants were all thrown clear with the exception of Airs Holland. and escaped serious injury. She was taken to Balelutha hospital, where she died twenty minutes after admission, her. skull being fractured. CYCLIST FOUND DEAD. AUCKLAND, Feb. 17. Early this morning the body of a man was found lying beside a bicycle in a deep drain on the roadside, near Turn a, Thmvaki Plains. It was identified as the body of Thomas Ernest Ballard. of Turua. Death is said to have been caused by cerebral haemorrhage. The police state there are no suspicious circumstances.
NOTED ATHLETE’S TRAGIC END. INVEHCARCjI ILL, Feb. 17. The body of B. Bain, of A venal Hoad, was found in the Estuary oil Saturday morning. The deceased, who was aged 57, was a single' man, and had resided in Invercargill all his life. For about 25 years he was employed by Lewis’ Ltd. drapers, and latterly had been engaged in fishing at Stewart Island, where lie proceeded for health reasons. He was a prominent athlete in his younger days, a Southland footballer for fifteen years, and a speedy pedestrian, having won the 100yds. Sncfiield at the Irish Athletic Society’s spirts and at numerous other similar gatherings. He took a keen interest in swimming, boating and boxing, having een a member of committees managing these sports. The deceased was most unassuming and highly popular in athletic circles. Owing to indifferent health he had latterly suffered from depression.
