Hokitika have won on 7 occasions, Westport!, Greymouth 2, St. Albans 2, United I. SINGLES CHAMPION. CONCLUSION OF PLAY. The play in the singles champion tourney, was continued on Saturday' after we went to press. In the third games of the round Harrison defeated McKay 15 and Stevenson defeated Southward by 21 to 16. This left three players, McKay, Harrison and Stevenson,' each with two wins and a loss. The tie resulting was played off in the afternoon, at 2.30 o’clock before a good gallery of spectators. In the first draw Stevenson and McKay met. On this occasion Stevenson managed to turn the tables on his victor of the morning, after a. very close struggle, Stevenson winning by 15 to 14. There was a gusty wind, strong at times, that considerably interfered with the play. After a brief spell, the winner

of the first play-off (Stevenson) nipt Harrison, who had drawn the bye. There resulted another good game in which for most of the time Stevenson had a small margin of advantage. In the closing • stages Stevenson seeured a .lead of 4 to 5 points, and howling consistently as his opponent, who. gave a good exhibition, the game ended on the 20th head, with Stevenson the winner by 22 to 16, and thereby winning the play-off with two wins and no losses. Mr Stevenson thereby became singles champion of champions for 1929. the result, being received with

a warm round of applause. Fallowing the conclusion of the play and in the absence of the Chairman, (Mr J. Ring) who had left to catch his train, Mr Percy Struthers (Westport representative of the West Coast Centro Executive) congratulated Air Stevenson of his success in being the singles champion and also the skip of the winning rink competitions. It was a success will deserved and lie heartily congratulated him and his Club. Ho then handed over the silver cup to be bold for the year. Mr Stevenson accepted the cup expressing his pleasure at succeeding against such worthy players. This was his second attempt to win the trophy and lie was pleased to have won it.

Air D. ATciv ay on behalf of the other players expressed appreciation of the complete arrangements made for the competition. “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” a tribute to the champion, was sung and the proceedings ended. During the morning and throughout the afternoon several members of the energetic ladies committee were present supplying the contestants and spectators with light refreshments in the same lavish manner that had prevailed during the whole week. The Executive ou the Club desire to sincerely thank one and all for tho very generous assistance given both in the provision of an ample supply of refreshments and for the splendid way the ladies had given their valued services so freely and ably.
