A question OF SUBSIDY. (By Telegraph—Press Association). HAMILTON, Feb. 14. The permanent surfacing of the Hamilton-Ngaruawahia section of the Main North-South highway has been long delayed, the Waijia County contending that the Highways Board should give more than a 3 to 1 subsidy as 90 per cent, of the traffic i.s from outside districts. Tno chairman of tho Highways Board answering a county deputation, said that it wjis 'no use arguing. No larger subsidy would be granted. in the meantime this section i.s surfaced with loose ;shingle and motorists frequently complain of the danger.
TWO FINKS. AUCKLAND, February 15. The case concerning the demonstration made against Constable Collins at St. Heliers Bay on New Year’s Eve was concluded at the Police Court late this afternoon. Alexander Black was fined L‘3 and costs, and John Black and Thompson each £2 and costs for disorderly behaviour. The charges against the other five men were dismissed.
DEER REGULATIONS. WELLINGTON, February 15. , Hon. do la Perelle, after .giving consideration to representations of the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatisation Society, has decided to issue similar regulations to those last year regarding killing deer in that district in the coming season. DIVER BREAKS HIS NECK. AUCKLAND, February 14. A youth, Lililev, who broke his neck when diving, died at the hospital. Walter Carroll, aged 26, a contractor, fell off a barge at Meremere, near Mercer, about midnight, and was drowned.
