WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11th. The Board met at B.To p.ln. Present: Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), G. Davidson, R. Meharry, T. W. Duff, A. B. Spiers, E. A. Wells, and M. Keenan. Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs Jeffries and Heinz. 'Hie minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IN WAR D COR RESPONDENTS. From Dr Yalintine asking to have alterations to maternity home carried out. —Received. After discussion it was moved by Mr Duff, seconded by Mr Davidson, that the matter be held over indefinitely as the Board do not consider this a permanent maternity home, the Chairman dissenting. From same, asking Board to advertise all applications for medical officers, etc. in city papers.—Received. Resolved that this Board resent 'tilts regulation and take exception to it and refuse to comply therewith. From Dr Chisholm, notifying vacant beds in Queen Mary Hospital.—Received.
From Hospital Board Association, forwarding copies of agenda paper for conference at Palmerston North on March 12tl). —Received. From same, forwarding schedule' of accommodation available at Palmerston North for delegates.—Received. From Government Printer, re regulations req u i red. —R ecei ved. From Commissioner of Taxes in regard to return re loan. —Received. from Kmnara Medical Fund forwarding cheque for £75, voluntary contributions.—Received with thanks. From Registrar of Pensions, re several pensioners.—Received. From Wallace and Fiord Hospital Board, asking for information re maternity home. —Received. Information already sent. 1
From Grey Hospital Board forwarding cheque for £SO 7s, being this Board’s quota from Timber Workers’ Union for .3 month sended 31st December, 1928.—Received. From Public 'Trustee, re estate of William J. Hawkins. —Received. From Government Statistician, acknowledging return for O.P. home. — Received.
From Council of N.Z. Matrons, re conference at Wellington on April 9th, 1929.—Received.
From Dr Baird applying for annual leave.—Received, and granted by Chairman. Action approved. From T. W. Bruce, applying for annual leave.—Granted.
From Nurse Laura Benvon, resigning position.—Received with regret.
The Red Cross Committee were granted the use of the Board rooms for classes. Messrs Duff and Davidson were authorised to sign agreement with Messrs Johnson and Wool house for moat supply for current year. Also agreement with four employees at the Hospital. From .Medical Superintendent, Westland Hospital, reporting patients m Hospital on 31st December, 1928, 25 males, 9 females, total 34. Admitted during January, 25 male's, 21 females- - 46. Total treated, 50 males, 30 females—Bo. Discharged cured, 26 males, 15 females—4l. Died, 4 males, 1 female—s. Total discharged 30 males, 16 females—46. Remaining in hospital, January 31st, 1929, 20 males, 14 females—34. In hospital for over two months. 9 males, 2 females—ll. Received.
The House Committee (per Air Davidson, Chairman) reported re resignation of wardsmaid. Recommended several requirements; repairs to Old Women’s Home; that John Singer had 'been appointed Wardsmnn at the Old People’s Home.—Received and approved. Repairs to the Board Rooms were authorised.
Accounts amounting to £341) 10s 3d wore passed for payment. The Treasurer reported:—Receipts £853 19s 3d; expenditure £879 18s sd; credit balance £799 6s ]od.—Received. The next meeting was fixed for March 18th, 1929. Mr Davidson asked what had been done to cause the Merry-go-Round man to pass some caustic ,remarks about the Board’s finances. The Secretary stated the man bad left a roll of tickets to l>o sold by the Board on condition lie would give us half the proceeds only, if we advertised same and sold the tickets. No one would undertake the sale of tickets on these conditions, and tho tickets were returned. The Board rose at 9.30 p.m.
