CAR THIEVING
THREE MEN CHARGED. SERIES OF CASES LIKELY. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 10. Arthur Edward Cowper, labourer, aged 20; Eric James Ferguson, tinsnrth, aged 19; and Thevelyn Billing Otten, Backsinith, aged 19, were jointly charged with stealing at Chrisicnurch a motor-car valued at £340, the property of James Leo Carrington. In asking for a. remand, the Chief Detective said ' the accused had only been arrested on tbe arrival of tbe Nelson boat. There would be other charges against them. He understood that the accused had been converting a car to their own use, driving with it to another town, and there abandoning t'.e car taking another. None of the abandoned cars, he said, bad been recovered. Bail was allowed each in £2OO.
