WELLINGTON FIRE
(Per Press Association—By Elect ri< Telegraph—Copyright). WELLINGTON, Feb. 10. Smoke helmets had to he used at a tire among a large quantity of tyres in the basement of Brunner’s building. Cuba St. last night. It was necessary for the brigade to break in through an upholstery factory, fronting Pringle Avenue, to get a lead into the basement. Another lead was taken from Cuba Street, but it was a considerable time before the seat o! the Jinnies could lie reached, ami four hours elapsed before the outbreak was completely suppressed. The building, of brick, is owned by the Mary Kennedy estate. The basement and Ixrttom floor were occupied by E. \Y. Pidgcon and Coy., who had been in occupation only a few days. Others in the building are: Edison Depot Phonographs, whose stock was damaged »y heat and smoke; Robert Malcolm. Ltd and A. A. Corrigan and Cov, in dent merchants and agents, on the Host (loor who suffered similar damage. Eluen/.0l Ltd., on the top door, was damaged by smoke. A large quantity of tyres in Fidgoon \s basement were damaged by fire and water, and the contents of the ground door'were damaged by heat and smoke. No insurance particulars are available.
