THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
Employers As Shareholders. “ With the new issue of shares our share list has been increased very considerably, and the directors, with a view to having our employees more largely interested in the company, put before them a scheme to take up shares at par and pay for them by instalments of (>d per share per month.” said tlie chairman (Mr F. E. Graham) at the annual meeting of shareholders of the Christchurch Gas Company. “Thus the shares would become fully paid, and the property of the applicant in a little over three years, and the interest on instalments would accrue at the/ same rate as dividends on the sharesA I am pleased to he able to say that 168 \ out of 258 permanent employees have taken advantage of the scheme by applving for 15,955 shares, and this should lie very gratifying to shareholders, as evidence of the conlidenee our employees have in the future of the gas industry.”
