PROGRESS UNDER ACT. (Times Service). (Received this day at 8.30. a.m.) LONDON, Feb. G. A year’s operation of the Britisl. B ilnis Act shows since the inception 227 British films have been registered including 10G feature (ilins, compared with lorty-livc and fifty respectively. In two years foreigners registered 1540. including 0-11 lea! lire films.’ British registrations were over iliriei the amount the Act requires, eliminating the former ft<Jr that the British exhibitor would have no liberty of choice'.. ■lt is understood fifty additional films have been completed and one hundred are being prepared lor production. Film renters licensed Under the Act number eighty and exhibitors four thousand one hundred. exceeding the estimates during the preparation of the Bill. Thirteen film companies with a capital of six millions sterling during eighteen months scoured an additional capita! to produce British films. Three new studios have been built at Elstrei*. AYeekwyn and AWmblev. and (.fliors liave been enlarged. All British studies haw been working constantly and there has been increased activity in marketing British pictures abroad. There is now every horn* to secure a better entry lo America. Alany contracts and interlocking agreement* have been made with European countries including Germany; alas plans for the wide distribution of British film in Australia and New Zealand and South Africa. These agreements are essential to prosperity.
