INFLUENZA REPORT
(United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, Feb. 5. The “Times” correspondent at Geneva says the Health Section of the League has collated world-wide reports on the influenza epidemic, wherefrom it appears it is thought generally to be in a mild form, even wider of incidence in some European countries than 1927. Cases in North Germany in the last- four weeks were fifty per centum higher. It was especially widespread in Seandinava where schools in some towns were closed owing to the illness of teachers. Reports from Denmaik, Finland and Lithuania show the epidemic is spreading. Netherlands, Hungary and Switzerland largely escaped hitherto. Spain experienced an epidemic of pneumonia. All countries show most deaths occur with elderly sufferers. The death rate in Britain was below the quinquenniums average. The epidemic seems to have started in China in July 192/. hut there was on epidemic in the Pacific Islands almost simultaneously.
