PROMISING OUTLOOK
VIEWS OF MR POLSOX, M.P. (Per Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). WELLINGTON, February (i. The opinion that New Zealand had turned the corner was expressed by Mr Poison, M.P. (President of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union) speaking at a meeting *of the Executive to-day. “We are having a wonderfully bounti'ful season, which is enabling n« to take advantage of the satisfactory prices which are ruling, not 111 one or two hut in all the most important branches of farming. Not only are butter and cheese realising satisfaetorprices, but wool, mutton, land), and beef art* all higher than most farmers expected. The result must he beneficial to the whole country .All classes will participate and unemployment wil! cease.
The splendid trade balance ifor tie past year is reflected in the excess of deposits over advances in the hanks. Hie result must he a fall in the price of money. The policy of the new Government to assist settlers by arranging advances at a cheaper rate will improve the position for borrowers when the opportunity occurs. Unfortunately immediate requirements of Imperial finance have impeded tlr carrying out o>f Sir -T. G. Ward’s full programme, .but- I imagine the Government will overcome the difficulty and the good prices will materially assist : n doing so. Mr Poison added that the warning given dairy farmers hy so experience' l ■in authority as Sir Thomas Clements must not he overlooked. He declared we were sacrificing flavour in butter to keeping qualities, and urged them not to interfere with the full butter-fid content of cheese. He also warned them that opponents were recruiting science to their aid in an endeavour t< retain their position.
