•SAFFC FAR DING DUTY FOR WOOL (Received this day at 9.25. a.m.) IXLYDON. February 4. An application for a safeguarding duty lor wool textiles opened to-day hdfore the Board of Trade Committee. Cyril .itk'inson, counsel for applicants, •said they represented the worsted industry but every.branch of the wool, worsted and textile industry supported the application. Air Comvns-Carr appeared for a group of British manufacturers merchants. He said he intended to call evidence to show no British industry of any importance made similar'goods to those imported. Atkinson remarked that he understood the opponents of the duty included only one worsted mnuuifacturer. The remainder were merchants. Carr repied that this was quite wrong. Atkinson said Continental spun worsteds wero imported into Britain as woollens and competed with lightweight British worsteds.
