A DAILY MESSAGE
GOOD AND BAD! No man is all good ; no man is all had. Not an orthodox view, hut nevertheless a true one. You “ good ” fellows have learned by experience, that among the roses growing in your soul many a wild and tangled weed is nourishing too, and many a man whom the world calls “ bad ” is still capable of love—life’s greatest achievement of forgiveness—life’s greatest grace of sorrow-—the most purifying of all human emotions: and while he is capable of these, no matter how had he may seem, he cannot he wholly had! Yes! And many a rose in growing among the weeds that are flourishing in the soul of a man whom the world calls wholly bad. .Had men and good men have one thing m common, and that is goodness and badness. For in every man many selves lie hidden—good and had—noble and ignoble—lovely and ugly—and ip mail living is wholly good or had. And there is one tiling that is at all times worth remembering, and that is, that if we knew nil a fellow’s “ other selves ” we should never dare to judge him. —M. PRESTON STANLEY.
