SALARY “CUTS.”

CA BJNET CONSIDER ATTON. WELLINGTON, February 2. The Government is at present giving attention to the question of salaries of public servants, and it is possible that an early announcement will be made as to whether it is the intention to restore the “cuts ” made by the legislation of 1922. The question of the restoration of the “cuts” was the subject of considerable discussion during the General Election campaign, and since the now Government came into office representations have been made by various branches of the service. Yesterday a deputation from the executive council of the New Zealand Railway Tradesmen’s Association interviewed the Afinister for Railways (the Hon. AV. It. Taverner) and the General Alanager of Railways (Air H. TT. Sterling), and requested that the “ cuts ” should be restored. In his reply, the AHnister stated that the question was at present receiving the consideration of Cabinet. AT,embers of the deputation stated subsequently that there appeared to lie every reason to believe that the new Government would do something in the direction of restoring to some extent the reduction of wages imposed in 1922.
