N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. NEW 100 YARDS RECORD. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, February 3. The first day of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Championships started at Wellington yesterday. In the first heat of the men’s 100 yards championship, W. Cameron (Wellington) bettered by two-fifths of a second the record of 57 2-5 secs set by N. Dorsett (Wanganui). In the final, Cameron did even better. He covered the distance in 55 4-5 secs., or 1 3-5 secs better than Dorsett’s record. Results : 100 yards Men’s Championship, final. W. At the Australian Women’s Swimming Carnival yesterday, Miss Jean Cocks, who is a mere girl, won the 440 yards Championship .in oniins 55 3-5 seconds, which is an Australian record. The previous holder of this record was Miss Fanny Durack, with the time ot f,mins 3 2-5 secs. Miss Cocks has thus proved the greatest girl swimmer Australia has- produced. She also won the hundred metres championship in I min 13 3-5 seconds.
