TIMBER INDUSTRY
PREPARING FOR STRIKE. (Australian Press Association). (United Service), (Received this day at 10.30. a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 31. Preparations were made yesterday by the Sydney timber yard and sawmilling and allied industries, for a strike as from to-morrow. It. is expected that if the men refuse to conform to the decison of the Arbitration Court and cease work rather than accept a forty-eight hours week, a majority of tlie timber yards and sawmills throughout this and adjoining States will he idle within a few days. SYDNEY, Jan. 31. Statements that the children of unemployed are either starving oi illnourished, were made at a public meeting at Chessnock, convened by the Mayor to discuss local districts. The meeting carried a resolution viewing with .disgust the Gtovernment’s action in allowing children to starve.
