STRATFORD, January 30,
A woman was killed and two girls terribly injured in a collision yesterday between an empty ballast train and a live-sealer ear at York road, a level crossing near Midhurst. The victims are Mrs Mary Podunsky, aged 53. driver of the car, the wife of Joseph Podunsky, of York Road, who was killed instantly. Agnes Podunsky, 17, daughter of deceased, suffering from scalp injuries, fractured pelvis and internal injuries, her condition being critical. Alary Pombroski, aged 7, granddaughter of Podimski. Her Injuries include a fractured skull and body bruises, her condition also being critical.
Mrs Podnnski was killed outright while Miss A. Dodunski, who was sitting in the front seat on the side struck by the engine was unconscious. Ap. paiviillv the you igor girl, M. Pombroski, who was also rendered unconscious, had boon occupying the hack seat, prior to the accident. The car had been proceeding up the mountain road from Stratford parallel with Ibe railway line. Just south ol York road intersection the road dips and a view ol the line is difficult to obtain. Mrs Dodunski evidently did not see the train approaching behind and drove around the corner on to the crossing. The train was not a scheduled one. This would account for the fact that a better look-out was not maintained.
