CHRISTCHURCH. January 30.

“If 1 live for fourteen thousand years. I will never forget tlie callous and brutal treatment meted out to me.” So said Michael Foley, now retiring from the position o'f Chief C'lerK of the Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch, to-day, when farewelled by Dench, Bar and police. “I was denied promotion and so lose superannuation. I was retired years before my time. If such treatment is to be tolerated, justice and fair play'will become hollow, meaningless terms.” Various speakers paid tribute to Folov’s work.

Mr Henry Holland. M.P. and J.F., said Foley had not had a fair deal.
