CHURCH TROUBLE.
ARCHBISHOP’S ACTION. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) PARIS. Jan. 27. The Archbishop of Aix has placed the village of Ranhentane under an interdict owing to rebellious proceedings of members of the Action Franca iso. . The local leader of the Action Francaise died and the rites Of the church were refused. Jn accordance with long standing instructions, two thousand supporters in the neighbouring districts bore the coffin to the church, conducted service and marched to the cemetery, beaded by the Cross and chanted a service at .the grave. The clergy were absent throughout. The Archbishop regarded the proceedings ns an act of disobedience and usurupation of the church’s authority, and has withdrawn the clergy and forbidden masses and hell ringing, and closed the church. Baptisms ancl marriages must lie celebrated in adjoining parishes. Barbentane has always been a royal hotbed of members of the Action Franeai.se, who pronounce their intention of forcibly occupying the church. The newspaper ‘‘Action I rancaise” blames both church and state for atempting to suppress Royalist sentiments.
