SUGGESTED SETTLEMENT.

(Received this day at 1.0 p m.)

LONDON, Jan. 27

Flevcnth hour negotiations to achieve an amicable out of court settlement 'in the Salvation Army dispute have been in progress during the week end. The “Daily Herald” understands the General is prepared to withdraw from the court on condition that he be allowed to retire. He is prepared to destroy the sealed envelope containing the name of his solfanpointod successor, leaving the High Council to nominate a new General. His entourage consider that these concessions might pave the "ay to a settlement but they are not optimistic. They realise that the High Council has been driven into the court and is now engaged in lighting for principles o! the Army, not only for tho present but in the future.
