TIMARU HARBOUR

NO DANGER TO SHIPPING. (By Telegraph—Press Association). TIMARU, Jan. 20. • Although it was feared yesterday that portions of the staging and some huge boulders swept from the eastern harbour extension by the heavy seas on Thursday night and Friday morning might have become lodged in the channel at the entrance to the harbour, there is now no need for any anxiety concerning shipping at Timaru. An extensive survey of the channel was made to-day by the Harbour Board’s staff, under the direction or Captain I). McDougall, and though dragging operation were continued for over four hours, no obstructions of any kind were located in the Channel, which offers a safe passage to and from port. The security of the harbour is uninjured in any way, and tbo work of the port will proceed as usual.
