Hon. AY. A. Witch, Minister oT Mines, is expected here op Thursday, January 31st, and it is proposed to take deputations at the 'Town Hall that evening a 8 o'clock. Following a welcome hv the Alavor of Hokitika, the matters to he brought forward on behalf of the Council are:— 1. Reconsideration /of l the refusal ♦ by the Department of subsidy to the Riinu Sluicing (the Chairman). 2. Hoad extension to Hillman's Power Station, estimated cost. £50!) (Cr. Murdoch.) Y M. Improvement of 'Three ami l'ive Mile tracks. Okarito, £IOO, £ for •£• (Cr. Jeffries). 4. Revision of pros]K»ot ing regulations with view to increased rates in keeping with present day costs lor plant and material (the Chairman). 5. Reduction of fees for mining npplic,ati\m anjd ’.rights to encourafp . prospectors and mining enterprises (Cr. Murdochi. 6. Hon Minister to he invited to visit Little Wanganui river erosion to finalise proposals regarding permanent protection for the settlement (C r. Jeffries). Following the County deputation, \jr H. A. Ilaucke, representing the lUmu Elinors’ Association will bring forwaid the following matters: — Prospecting—That the aid to pio-.-peoting be raised fifty per cent ail round. Prospecting in Quartz—That a prospecting party composed of from two to four members be allowed to take up and bold 'for one year fifty acres, without being put to the loss and delay of making application in the Warden’s Court, and without paying rent, anything over fifty acres to bo applied for in the ordinary way, the rent to be. A. .Witch (Minister of - Mines) to-da.v made a tour oif the coal mining centres, receiving at all ol them deputations on various matters affecting mining industries. On return to . town in the evening the Minister and 4P*- Mrs .Veitcli were the guests ol the Caledonian Soceity at a Burns Night, when “The Immortal Memory was ably celebrated by the Rev. AMillar, inspiring speeches were made by Hon. Air Veitcli and Messrs H. EHolland, M.P.. and C. Black, AI P. The Minister leaves for Karamea in the morning.
