SOME FINE SI’ORT,

THAMES, Jan. 25

Despite a gale that raged last evening. Zane Grey and party captured four game fish, from the launch Alma. G, Whilfen, of the Publicity Department. caught a marlin of 40411>., from the launch Avalon. Captain Mitchell caught a mako of 4401 b. and swordfish of 2211 b., whilst from the launch Zane Grey, Romer Grey landed a 3201 b. swordfish. This brings the record of the pait-j to 40 fish at Mercury Bay. Captain Mitchell had the worst luck, since he hooked what the boatman reckoned would have been a world’s record mako, which after broaching, twice wrapped itself in a ladder, finally tearing the hook away after a strenuous battle. Even after it was tangled it broached five times, the estimated leaps being twenty feet. The fish also rushed close to the boat and with difficulty a ramming was avoided. The boatman states it was the finest fight, extending over two hours, put up by any game •fish in New Zealand waters.

Arrivals to-day include R. 8. "Wilson of Cape Brett.

Capt. Orv Ewing and party set out this morning to visit Zane Grov’s camp, and also explore adjacent waters. Aosterday. broad-hill wore seen close to Ohenn Island.
