BANK CLERK’S LAPSE

AUCKLAND, Jan. 24

At the Police Court William Frederick Thomas, aged 27, until recently a clerk employed hv the Commercial Bank of Australia in Auckland, pleaded guilty to six charges of stealing sums totalling £507 13s 7d, the property of the Bank. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. 1 liomas had Ikjcii employed by the Bank for ten years. In a statement to the police he admitted having converted the money to his own use and said lie spent it in gambling and luxurious living. The money had all been spent. He was now without means.

A SUICIDE

WAJMATE, January 24

.James Stackpoole, single, aged 04, was found dead in his hut last evening with his throat cut and a razor in his right hand. The position off the body and the surroundings pointed to premeditated suicide, which according to the doctor occurred eighteen hours’ previous. At the inquest to-day the district coroner, G.
