UNEMPLOYMENT

UNEMPLOYED AT CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, Jan.. 23. There are about 40j unemployed now registered here. There are 46 fewer than there were on Monday. Last week 97 mw registrations were received and 44 men were placed in employment, 26 in Govern ment jobs and 18 in private work. Ih names of 95 .men were removed from the register owing to their applications not being renewed, leaving << total of 403 on Monday night. Of this total 285 are men with dependents and 118 are without dependents. During the past fortnight there have been no men engaged at tile bureau for employment with local bodies.
