GODDARD CASE.

BRIBERY CHARGE

The Goddard case was continued. Wilkin explained that he sometimes utilised Goddard’s betting tips on horse racing, which were exceptionally good. He only remembered one occasion when they were unsuccessful. Wilkin -mentioned an occasion when Goddard telephoned from a public box outside the night club and told Madame Aider of the Jokers Club that a raid was going to take place. Wilkin detailed other occasions when Goddard telephoned or wired owners of night clubs that raids were in prospect.

Wilkin added that Goddard destroyed a number .of police note books which ought to have been returned to the sub-divisional inspector when full. Cross-examined, he agreed there was nothing in the books to affect Goddard. The case was adjourned.
