DEATHS IN JAPAN

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright'. * (Received this day at 8 a.m.) TOKIO, Jan. 22. As a- result of a continued influenza epidemic in Tokyo, there are 35 deaths daily. ON ISLAND OF KOTUMA. SUVA, Jan. 23. A broncho-pneumonic influenza epidemic is raging on the island of Rotuma, 590 miles north of Fiji, but under Fiji administration. The first case was on Dec. 4th. after the arrival of the inter-island steamer Makatca. With the exception of Dr Carcw (Resident Commissioner) two Europeans, and some 50 Fijians, the latter proving immune, everyone of the 2300 inhabitants is affected. The deaths total 31, equal to 1.3,0 f the population. The epidemic is now abating.

Practically the wholo work of attending tile sick devolved on Dr Carew, as the native medical practitioner was a sufferer also.
