Roy Bruhn, aged 24, a brother of Norman Bruhn, who was murdered in Sydney during an underworld brawl, was arrested on a vagrancy charge. The arrest followed the shooting ol Mina Ryan, aged 27, who while walking home was wounded in the side. She is not expected to recover. BOY DROWNED. MELBOURNE, January 22. Washed off a surf board, Frederick Bannister, aged 10, was carried out to sea and drowned at Mentone. The tragedy was witnessed by his mother. The body has not been recovered. SERIOUS FIRE. BRISBANE. January 22. Many thousands of pounds worth of damage was done when a fire destiojed five shops in the main street at Ingham. The stock in 'four of the shops was destroyed by the flames. HEAT WAVE. A RECORD”TEMPERATURE. BRISBANE. January 22. 'l’lie heat wave which has been l aging over central west Queensland for the past week reached a climax yesterday, when 113 degrees were registered at Longrcach. In several inland districts the temperature reached as high as 125 degrees.
