Ihe leaders agreed to have the Senate meet an hour earlier and adjourn an hour later each day to hasten the appropriation bills and agreed that night sessions might be necessary next wee v if the way was not cleared. He stated |,e would, at any rate, not permit the bill to be jeopardised. NAVAL TRAGEDY. five u.s.a. men drowned. WASHINGTON. Jan. 21. A boat, from the U.S.A. destroyer “Whitney” struck a barge and overturned in the Balboa Canal Zone. Til ere were passengers in the boat, who wcic thrown into the water. Two officers and three men were drowned. Captain Giles, commanding the Whitney, was one of those rescued. QUAKE DISASTER. OVER 800 CASUALTIES. CARACAS (Venezuela). J;:n. 20. A despatch from Cuniana reports that 8(H) persons were injured on Thursday in an earthquake. Twenty-eight people are known to be dead.
