AMUSEMENTS.
N EVERYBODY! PICTURES. “ IBISU HEARTS ” TO-NIHT. “ Irish' Hearts,’” a Warner Bros.’ production. From the story by Melville Grosman. Scenario by .Graham Baker. Directed by Byron Haskin. . Cast inj eludes Jason Robbards, Warner Richmond, Kathleen Key, Walter Perry, Walter Rodgers, and Les Bates. Here nt last is a..comedy which docs not caricature, but characterises. Here X are the Irish as they are. May McAvoy 1 has never, appeared so altogether adorable, and that is saying a - great deal. We remember, her in “ Sentimental Tommy” and "The Enchanted Cottage” and “Lady Windermere’s Fan,” nnd many others. Her portrayals are always like cameos. But as Patsy Shannon—the .colleen who leaves Ireland to find her lover Emmett, in America, and instead find hard wprk, sorrow, struggle, and to counteract all the bad luck (which came about by loss of a shamrock brooch) —Timmie O'Shay—sfie is irresistible. ,Patsy Shannon frees the Irish that is May McAvoy. All the fun and the fire, and tenderness are in her own heart. Patsy is May! Jason Robards gives a fjne performance as the rough-neck Tim, and Warner Richmond can .be depended on always. He is Emmett, the false lover. Kathleen Key ns .the up-to-date .girl, who wins Emmptt away from Patsy, is well cast. No review of “ Irish Hearts ” would be complete without mention of that old trouper, Walter Perry, who plays the tippling, tantalising, braggart dad to Patsy. His performance is as nearly perfect as a performance can be. Byron Haskin has “Irish,Hearts” as his second directorial piece. His first, “MatineeLadies,” which was censored in Aps-tf-alia, also starred .Miss McAvoy. Both are examples of marvellous insight into character and of technical skill. “Irish Hearts ” will please you, .whoever you ,are. It. js a play for anywhere, anytime.
