CORSAIR SOCIAL CLUB

SUCCESSFUL EXd RSION. The Corasir Social Club’s excursion from Clidistchurch on Saturday passed off very successfully. The train ran well to time all through the long journey, and arrived here punctually. The weather behaved admirably. The wet and overcast morning, gave way betimes, and the late forenoon was fine, and very warm. When the excursionists arrived the streets had dried up, and everything promised well. There were 537 excursionists in all, 497 adults and 40 juveniles, and they rapidly dispersed from the railway siaiion. The calls of the- inner man had first attention, the hotels and restaurants being well patronised. Later a very general rush was made for Lake Kanieri and all availabe motor cars were pressed into service. A cricket team met the local players in a match oil Sea View Hill, and the game was drawn, 97 runs each on the first innings. The Sumner Bowling Rink travelling witli the excursion, was accounted for on the local green by a local rink. The visitors to Lake Knnieri were delighted with their outing, and regretted there was not more time to enjoy the bush. 'File rush of passengers was so sustained that some ol then rs had to make four trips to tram port all offering. The road was in first class order, and the trip- greatly enjoyed. Many of the visitors spent their time calling on friends, or sight-see-ing locally. Cars were not available for the dredge trip. Others spent some time on Cass Square, and remarked on its suitability for such nn outing. There was an energetic committee with the excursion, also a Jazz Band, and everything possible was done for the visitors. There' was a large assemblage at the Railway Station to see the excursion train off on the return journey at 8.10 o’clock on Saturday evening. The visitors were a happy band and many wearing carnival bats gave the scene a very bright aspect. The band played lively airs and a very happy vein permeated the proceedings. A member of the party mounted a platform and moved a hearty vote of thanks to the people of Hokitika for their cordial welcome niid all that had been done for them, and this was carried with acclamation. Cheers again resounded fis the train moved off punctually. During the afternoon. Air G. A. Frost, Secretary, on behalf of the Club, presented Mr D. J. Evans with a leather wallet suitably embossed, in appreciation of the work the recipient had performed on behalf of the visi-

tors, making necessary arrangements for their advent. Mr Evans replied that lie was taken quite by surprise. He was well rewarded. by seeing such a happy band of visitors and hoped that their impressions would be so pleasing that they would elect to come and come again to Hokitika.
