Mystery surrounds the situation in Afghanistan, following Inayatullah’s accession. Reports from Peshawar state an armistice arranged hv the .Mullahs is not being observed, and Baechasakao with a large rebel force completely surrounded Kabul, seized the wireless and aero* K planes and cut off the capital from the outside world. Baechasakao openly declared his intention off■ betoming tfio Afghan King. The position of the new King is one of grave anxiety. The British Legation is again in the danger zone, hut if is believed its sanctity will lie respected. Ex-King Amanullah’s whereabouts are unknown. The story of his llight to Kandahar is discredited. It is believed he is still at Kabul with his brother, the King, with whom he formerly was on most friendly terms. it is believed that Amanullah’s abdication was merely a tactical move and that he will attempt to regain the throne, with the aid of a powerful Durrani tribe inhabiting Kandahar and suburbs, where the Queen, Queen Mother and other jaiemtiers of the Boyal family fled, y ft is understood rebel tribesmen captured Jagdalak, midway between Kabul and Jalalabad with a large Afghanistan force. It is reported that Bolshevist influence was largely responsible for fomenting the present troubles in Afghanistan. CONFLICTING REPORTS. DELHI, .Tan. 17. Peshawar report states P,aa' lc'«akno captured' Kabul with Amanullah and the new King, hut it is reported locally that Amanullah reached Chaman on Tuesday and hoisted his Hag ovei the Palace. Y'lt is believed the ex-King intends •’gathering a force at Kandahar for an attack on Kabul. AFGHAN ARRESTS. DELHI, .Tan. 17. Three brothers and a nephew of Sirjar Omar Khan., the Afghan Prime who disappeared from Allahabad, were arrested at Calcutta and four other brothers of Omar Khan were arrested at Allahabad. All are being removed '• to Rangoon.
