MINES IDLE
TROUBLE ABOUT CONDITIONS,

GREY-MOUTH, January 17
Trouble at Blackball mine owing to the management refusing to agree to the “ turn ” system of employment as desired by the Union resulted in the mine being idle yesterday and to-day.
There are 230 men affected. Dobson mine was also idle yesterday and to-day, 250 men being affected. It is understood tbe cause of tliis trouble was that the men refused to walk 100 feet down the mine incline to reach trolleys used for conveying Uiem underground, the trolleys being lef£ 100 feet lower than usual Ifor safety reasons. The State mine was idled yesterday, 180 men being affected. The management declined to allow four men to work as they left the mine early on the previous day. The remainder of the men refused to continue. The mine is working to-day.
