WATERSIDE DISPUTE
PREFERENCE FOR ITALIANS. (Australian Press Association) (United Service.) ADELAIDE, Jan. 10. As n. consequence of yesterday’s wharf riot, the police are now strongly guarding volunteer labour. There were isolated disturbances today. One volunteer was roughly handled, hut police batons had a salutary effect on would-be assailants, who complain bitterly that there is no work offering while Italians are available. The. shipowners’ representatives declare that the rioting will make them all the more determined to employ southern Europeans.
