WEIRD SCULPTURE
AN ARTIST’S CARICATURE
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).
(Received this day at 8.30. a.m.) LONDON, January 14.
The weirdest of many weird things at the exhibition of the work of Sava Bot/.aris, the Serbo-Grcek sculptor, is one representing Bernard Shaw. “Slmw in plus-fours or astride a charger is unthinkable. He wants a symbol so 1 made him a totem pole,” said Botzaris. The result is something akin to a pillar of a Maori hut surmounted h.v carefully parted liair, beetling eyebrows, and a few wisps of whiskers. A wag suggested at first glance—■ “It’s Lot’s wife.” Shaw suspends judgment till he has seen the caricature: “ I think the totem pole is a good idea, because I appear to he totem to a good many people. 1 only hope Botzaris has made it tolerably good.”
