WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD
MONDAY, JANUARY 14th. The Board met at 8 p.m. Present— Messrs W. Jeffries (voted to the chair), G. Davidson, R. Meharry, E. A. Wells, T. W. Duff, and M. Keenan. Apologies 'for absence were made for Messrs Breeze, Spiers, and Heinz. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Hon. A. J. Stalhvorthy, Minister for Health, conveying seasonal greetings.—Received. From Hon. Sir Joseph Ward acknowledging good wishes for festive season. —Received.
From Hon. J. A. Young, ex-Minister of Health, acknowledging letter of good wishes.—Received.
From Health Department, Wellington, declining suggestion for making of a debtor’s roll.—Received.
From same, in reference to history of institution. —Received. From Dr Baird, acknowledging on behalf of staff and himself good wishes of the Board.—Received.
From James O’Brien, M.P., notifying approaching visit of Hon. the Minister of Mines and suggesting that he bo advised of any. matters that it was desired to bring before the Minister. — Received; left to Chairman and town members.
From Kumara Borough Council forwarding final levy for 1928.—Received. From Dr Baker, School of Hygiene, in reference to treatment of a patient in hospital.—Received. Various letters dealing with formal matters and outstanding accounts were received and dealt with.
From J. Souter, wardsmnid, resigning her position.—Received. Left in hands of matron to fill the vacancy. REPORTS.
The House Committee reported on the appointment of a wardsman was held over temporarily; that in view of the wardsmaid having gone off duty without leave, that her resignation be accepted; acknowledging donations received by the Matron for Christmas cheer. —Received and adopted.
From Surgeon-Superintendent reporting on December Ist there were 35 patients in Westland Hospital. Admitted during December, 22 males, 18 females. Total treated, 45 males, 30 females—7s. Discharged cured 18 males, 19 females—37. Died 2 males, 2 females. Total discharged 20 males, 21 females—4l. Remaining in hospital 31st- December 25 males, 9 females 34. In hospital lor two months 11 males, 1 female—l2.—Received. Accounts amounting to £-103 19s lid were passed for payment. The Treasurer reported receipts ,£1277 14s 9d, payments £1025 Os 3d, credit balance £842 5s 3d.—Received. Mr Jeffries reported having disposed of the Board’s horse and bridle for £B. —Received ; action approved.
The Secretary submitted remits proposed to be brought before the -Hospitals Board Conference—Received and dealt with. The Chairman was appointed to represent the Board. The Secretary submitted a report showing the cost of anaesthetics in the last 3! years was £252 Is, £127 Is, £284 11s. £216 6s, a total of £879 19s. —Received.
Tlie next meeting was fixed for Monday, 11th February. The Board rose at 8.50 p.m.
