STORM DAMAGE
A TRYING DAY. (Australian Pi ess Association). (United Service). ißeceived this day at 10.30. a.m.) SYDNEY, January 4. Sydney yesterday experienced the most trying day for the year. Almost every suburb experienced''(ires at night. A howling gale, reaching a velocity ol sixty-three miles an hour cased conditions. A man and a boy were killed during the storm. Ships were blown adrift in the harbour. Electric lights failed, and tram services were disorganised. BRISBANE, January 4. Incessant rain has fallen on the far Northern Coast. The Tull.v and the Herbert rivers arc rising rapidly. The northern mail train was unable to proceed beyond Ingham. Trains to Cairns and Tablelands were also held up. At Ingham the weather shows no sign of clearing. lnnislail reports torrential rain is falling, and portions of Johnston district are under water.
