A SHEEP-KILLER

ALL NIGHT GUARD BY FARMERS

GLASGOW, November 1

A large grey Alsatian dog, reputed to be a sheep-killer, is being hunted day and night in Lanarkshire by men with shot-guns and snares. Poilce in the lyesmahagow district organised an armed search to-day in which 30 people—farmers, shepherds, and villagers —took part. 'I hey scoured the countryside to no avail. “The dog was seen in this district both yesterday and to-day,” said a member of the party to me. “We became aware of his presence this morning, when two sheep were found on a farm, dead and badly mutilated. “Every available man was recruited from neighbouring farms, and a party armed with shot-guns and snares under the direction of the Police made a thorough search. Although wo combed every stretch of bush and .woodland, we did not run him to earth. 30 SHEEP KILLED.

“Tlio party has now broken up into sections and watch will be maintained throughout the night.

Inquiries over an area of about 20 square miles revealed the fact that no fewer than 30 sheep have been killed, arid many more ferociously mutilated and left to die.

The leader of one of the search parties Bn id to me that the dog is to be shot at sight. As far as can be gathered the animal has been at large for a little more than a week, and no one can say where it came-from. It first appeared at Strath a veil, .Lanarkshire, where a- shepherd found two - sheep lying dead on n hillside with -the hindquarters eaten away. The countryside over which the dog lias roamed is a broken agricultural district providing it. good deal of natural cover in spinneys • 6nd woodland.
