FISHING

THRILLS OE NEW ZEALAND

AUCKLAND, Dec. 22

Anglers in England and America would never experience thrills until they came to the deep blue waters north of Auckland, said Mr 11. 0. Koppel-Palmer, of England, on his return to Auckland after a spell of deep-sea fishing at Russell (reports the New Zealand “Herald”). As an experienced fisherman he knew. “When T got hack to ray friends in the United States and in Britain T. will not he able* to sing my (praises of this country too high. One simply cannot tell ‘fish tales’ after succeeding in your waters. Tt is so unnecessary. Tn English and American dubs it certainly will be a case where truth is stranger than fiction.” Excitement and thrills were experienced bv both travellers when the mnko shark was caught, “The fight lasted 50 minutes,” Mr •Koppel-Palmer said. “We were forced to go two and a half miles out to sea in the wake of the mako after it was hooked. My rod began to fall to pieces with the strain, and by the time we had harpooned the prize the rod

was nearly useless. At times I needed every ounce of my strength to hold him ” Pleasure was expressed by the visitors at the excellent arrangements at Bussell. The camp was characterised as being really ideal. “I shall be a very disappointed man if I cannot get back to these shores within two or three years.” Mr Keppel-Palmer adeed. ‘‘Zane C!rev has not said too much aliout your country; 1 endorse all he has said.”
