BYRD’S EXPEDITION
ELEANOR BOLLING
RETURNS TO DUNEDIN

DUNEDIN, December 20
Having completed the I'lirtherest south tow ever made, the Eleanor liolling, Byrd expedition steamer, arrived this morning. While towing tlie base ship, City of New York, they had heavy weather, the tow-line breaking twice. The master reports that the ice pack is the thickest for Id summers. The Dolling has been docked for fitting a new propeller. The vessel suffered no damage in the inclines but several plates were denied through humping tlie. City of New York during coaling. II is not expected (hat the latter vessel can reach the open water this month. The Larsen is not to tow her, hut will go ahead to open the way Her the barque. Her progress will be slow, the Larsen reporting having taken i days to go through ‘2B miles ol ice.
