WILKINS’ FIRST FLY
IMPORTANT DISCOVER IKS MADE
OF ANTARCTIC CONTINENT
(United Press Association—By Electric
Telegraph—Copyr'gbt)
LONDON, December 20
Sir 11. Wilkins, in a copyright message, slates Grahainland is separated from tlie great Polar continent by an ice-tilled channel. Tho question which puzzled geographers lor ages was solved 10-day.
The llight in the monoplane, beyond the volanie mountains in Graham Land enabling 11s to see six hundred and lidLv miles south over the Antarctic Continent, proved conclusively that the range does not extend tiniulei 1 upfedlv. It lias previously been the belief of science that the mountains in Graham Land extended towards the Pole and perhaps beyond. Me dispio\ed that to-day.
We also gained an important sight ol the geographical formation of this little known laud of ice.
A run-way of hall a mile had to he cleared through the snow and the take oil' was very difficult.
