DISTINCTION FOR AUCKLAND RABBI.

111 recognition of the lifetime which the Rev. A. S* Goldstein, of Auckland, has devoted to the cause of Judaism, the title of “Alorenu,” meaning “Our Teacher,” a much-prized and seldom bestowed distinction, has been conferred upon him by' the Chief Rabbi of the British Empire, the Very Rev. Dr. J. H. Hertz. Writing to Rabbi Goldstein, from St. James Place. Afdgate, London, Dr Hertz said, “J learn with deepest gratification that you will soon complete filty years in y'our ministry to the Auckland congregation. I now gladly confer upon you the title ‘Alorenu,” in recognition of the lifetime you have devoted to the cause of Judaism. Von have striven to live up to the ideal
of the Jewish teacher. The bestowal of the title was a great surprise to Afr Goldstein, who was, of course, delighted that he should have been singled out for the high honour, ms co-religionists in Auckland and throughout New Zealand will be joined by the citizens of all creeds in congratulating him upon the receipt of this honour, since Air Goldstein is held in the highest esteem by u.'L
