A NEW SYNAGOGUE. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. The old Hebrew Synagogue on the Terrace is being demolished, to make way for a new brick and concrete structure, costing £II,OOO. The Synagogue was luiilt about 1874. The foundation stone of the new building will he laid about the middle of next month. TO SWIM COOK STRAIT. ASHBURTON, Dee. 19. .Miss Lily Copplcstone intends starting on her swim of Cook Strait at 2 o’clock on the morning of Saturday .January 18th.. entering the water at Cape Koamam at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, her objective being Cape O’Haoa. John Fleming and Sarah Jane Fleming, for a claim of £2(700 was delivered by Justice Adams in the Supreme Court this morning. The action was dismissed.
SCULLING WANGANUI, Dec. 18. The annual four-oared boat race, Christ’s College v. Wanganui Collegians. was rowed to-day over a mile course. The weather and water conditions were perfect. Knapp, of Alntuoka, .was admitted to I lie Nelson Public Hospital with a. had wound in a leg, caused through a rifle going olf accidentally while he was on a shooting expedition at Raton. He was walking along with a, carcase of deer on his hack and dropped his ride, butt downward. It went off and the bullet ontere his leg, badly shattering it. It is hoped that the limb will be saved.
