LONDON TRAFFIC
CO-ORDINATION SCHEME. PRIVATE BILLS PREPARED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). RUGBY. December If. Private Bills for ’powers to proceed with the extensive plan for the <o-or-dination of Loudon passenger transport service have been deposited with, the Mouse of Commons by the London County Council and the London General Omnibus Company. The Bills provide that the London Traffic* Advisory Committee shall become the statutory authority to which would be referred all questions that may arise as to fares, adequacy of service and plans for future developments. This hod\ would tints become the public's protection against exploitation by the monopoly thus created. The Bills carry out in till particulars the recommendations made by the London Traffic Committee a year ago.
The Government, it. is understood, has undertaken to give facilities to enable the Bills to bo passed holme tlie general election next year. The underground group is prepared to start work on tube railway extensions in various parts of tin- London area' as soon as tin* Bills become law. Modern tube railways cost approximately El .000,000 per mile, and the underground group is prepared to start on works costing from £ I 0,000, 000 to £20.000,000, if assured that wasteful competition between various forms ol transport service will he eliminated.
