The No. 12 Main Highways Council met at Greymouth last evening. Greymouth has been the usual place of meeting for the Council since its inception. The members have expressed a desire to hold the meetings at alternate centres in order to obtain a more intimate idea of district requirements. An invitation was extended by Air Evans to hold the next meeting of the Council at Waiho thus enabling the members to tour the main south highway. The invitation was accepted, and the meeting will bo held about the third "eek in February on which occasion the estimates of next year’s requirements will be discussed.

Air T. H. APWilliams ,wireless operator of the Southern Cross, reached Auckland from Wellington on Friday. Ho is still in association with Squad-ron-Leader Ivingsford Smith and Flight-Lieutenant Ulm, and is merely spending a holiday in New Zealand until their plans further develop. lie expects to receive a cablegram summoning h’m to return to them in Sydney at any time. Their plans are not rigidly fixed yet. hut they intend to go to America and it is more than likely they will take the Southern Cross with them. It is quite probable that tho party may use it for the last part of the journey from Honolulu to California. Air APWilliams expects to return to Wellington early this week.

Tt was elicited at the meeting of the Highways Council at Greymouth last evening, that the proposals for bridging Vine, AlcCullougli, AlcDonald and Red Jacks creeks on the main South Road to AVaiho have been approved, and tho material ordered. That for tho first named bridge is now arriving. Very shortly work at AlcDonald and Red Jack creeks will be commenced, there being some concrete abutments to build. It is tho intention to advance the construction of all Hie bridges as rapidly as possible, and with the material on order, the four bridges should be available for traffic in the earlier half of the new year. This is very satisfactory, and Air Evans last night expressed satisfaction to tho District Engineer at the expedition shown in regard to these works as sanctioned by the Highways Board.
